About Habitat Friends

Habitat GTA is a non-profit housing organization that mobilizes volunteers and community partners to provide affordable housing and promote homeownership. We believe that access to safe, decent and affordable housing is a basic human right. Through a hand up, not a hand out, Habitat offers a sustainable and long-term solution for the GTA that breaks the cycle of poverty one family at a time.

As a U of T student chapter of Habitat GTA, Habitat Friends @ UTSG aims to:
– Raise awareness and educate students on lack of affordable housing in the GTA
– Raise funds and recruit volunteers to support Habitat GTA’s projects
– Build leaders in the U of T community
– Exemplify Habitat’s core values: Housing for All, Human Dignity, Partnership, Faith in Action, Diversity and Inclusiveness

As a group, we will engage in the following activities:
– Promote Habitat GTA’s mission, vision and events on campus
– Educate students through seminars
– Organize events on campus to raise funds
– Participate in Build Days and volunteer in ReStore to donate “sweat equity”
– Volunteer abroad through Habitat’s Global Village program

Through our effort, we hope to help break the cycle of poverty and raise the standard of living in the GTA.
